I am trying to set up a workgroup between two computers which are both Windows XP Professional.

I have an SMC wireless router downstairs hooked up to the computers on the lower floor which I give Internet access to, to the laptop, which is in my room.

The workgroup names are the same, they are on the same subnet, but I can't find the second computer or ping it.

help?

Do both the computers have different names? Are the IP addresses different?

If you have a software firewall up and running make sure you have your IP addresses or host name in a trusted zone or they are allowed to commuicate.

THi all,
To expand mbrook a little regarding the firewall, don't over look the XP built-in firewall.

If the house catches fire, SAVE the computer!!

Thanks.

It was the firewall that caused the problem.
