The USB flash drive is a good way to "sneaker net" -- sure is faster than the old 5 1/4" floppies -- but that's not what you want, I think.

Is your ADSL modem/router wireless? Does it have LAN ethernet ports?

For each computer, does it have a Network Adaptor (also called Network Interface Card or NIC, or ethernet card)? Does it have a wireless adaptor (also called Wi-FI card)?

Basically you'll want to attach one computer to the router via ethernet (CAT5) cable, and the other the same way or wirelessly. The answers to the above questions will help determine what, if anything, else you need. If you want more advice, post the answers here and I'm sure somebody will respond.

The ADSL/Router is wireless or so it says and yes it has 4 LAN ports on the back of it. Both the computers have built in Lan ports on the motherboard and built in ethernet adapters. I called into my local pc store today and they said that the kit i have is the only things i need, but i need help cos i cant seem to get it up and running.

Another thing when i try and install drivers for the flash drive network adapter the drivers dont seem to install properly as when i look in the device driver box there is a ! next to the device (after driver install and restart)

Just connect an ethernet (CAT5) cable between each computer and a LAN port on the router and you have your physical network. Suggest you check out some of the overviews and tutorials that are easily available and then if still having trouble tell us what you've done so far, and where you're running into trouble. An easy start is Start - Help and Support Center; type "home network" without the quotes into the search box and you should see a bunch of articles (some of them useful).

I have no idea about the USB flash drive problem. Maybe check the manufacturers web site for known problems or updated driver.

Important :

An "ADSL modem/router" has two modes.

Routing and bridging.

If it's in bridging mode then it's only used as a modem, and means that you need to initiate the highspeed connection from your pc. (i.e. Click on connect/dial)

If it's in routing mode, then the router portion does this for you, and the connection is practically always on, if not on-demand.

The point?

What TerryNet suggested only works if it's in routing mode. It won't work if it isn't.
Check the manual to enable routing mode.

Best regards,
