Subject: Setting a VPN - Windows 2K or Cisco Box?
Comment:

I'm proposing to set up a VPN covering two offices using an Internet DSL connection. I know all about setting up VPNs using Windows 2000, but using a Cisco Box to setup a VPN is new territory.

Has anyone any experience of using a Cisco box to setup a VPN? I know Cisco will cost more but what are the advantages?

Best Regards...

stick with what you know. seems like you have the Win2k Server software already. You already have what you need. Cisco VPN Concentrators are quite expensive. If you're new to the Cisco IOS, then setup and support in addition to the hardware will really add up.

Creating crypto-maps on Cisco boxes isn't something you pick up overnight. The Cisco box will be much more secure but would require outside help to set up.

Have you looked into another device like a SonicWall Soho3 / They work great & the setup is all done thru the browser - & they also if you want it they do NAT & DHCP & even have some bandwidth management ability / + they are a true firewall (with statefull packet inspection) / (i've installed about 12 of these and they are the only firewall we recommend)
