set up lyksys WRT150N

Specs: Windows XP
I am trying to set up the above wireless router and I can't even get the power LED to come on. I have a high speed cable modem via COX Cable. I plugged the modem cable to the router and another cable from the router to my laptop. I ran the CD as instructed before connecting any of these. When I try to use the "set up new router" option that was loaded from the CD, it tells I'm not connected to the internet even though I am (this is when I still am directly connected to my cable modem). It says to hit continue, I did, then it asks me to choose my router from the list but it doesn't show me any list, where the list should be it says "configuring your computer" and just stays there forever. I tried reloading the software, plugging in everything after I ran the CD, before I ran the CD, restarting my computer several times, and in no instant did the power LED on my router even come on. Is my router defective?

Without plugging anything in to the router, plug in the power adapter. If the power light does not come on, your router is bad. Take it back in to the store you purchased it from, with the bill of sale, and they'll replace it.

While I've never used the CD to install anything for a router (I just connect the darn thing, look up the management interface IP and connect to that to finish setup) I suspect you have to have it connected to the internet and your PC/laptop connected to a LAN port before you do anything else.

It seems to me it would be pretty hard to setup a router when you're not even connected to it....

If the power light isn't on, the rest is worthless. You should see that just from plugging it into the wall outlet. No CD is needed.
