Well I don't know about vista however XP has a suitable walkthrough in it's Help & Support menu.

I would suggest looking at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/... as describing how to do it can be quite lenghty.

I found your request some what unclear.
Are you trying to share files that are on a vista machine to a machine that is running xp or are you trying to share files from a xp machine to a computer that is running vista?
If the files are on a vista machine, the links mensioned above will proov unusefull, consider reading http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind... for a howto.

It should be simple enough but if you run into trouble just post back.

O right, xp to vista - easy enough:
on the xp box:
1: find the folder that you want to share - it is easier if this is not inside documents and settings, so thats nothing on your desktop or my documents; just put it in the root of a harddrive.
2: Right click and click sharing.
3: check the box that says share this folder and type in a name then click ok.
4: right click my computer > properties > computer > change and note down your computers name.
On the vista box:
1: open \\xpcomputername in explorer; the folder that you shared should come up.
Thats the very basics of file and printer sharing - theres some fancy stuff that you can do with users but I don't think its needed at this point.
Hth.
