Hi: I have a Dlink router. I wanna know what port I need to open to let the ftp work? I always use port 21. Do i just open port 21, or do I need to open any other. P.S I am using router. Let say my ftp machaine IP is 192.168.0.101 my router is 192.168.0.1 What IP do I use for letting people connect to my ftp? Do I use the external IP of my DSL modem or local IP? ftp://username:password@IP??? Sincerely Rukawa Kaede

Here you can check for your self if that port is open by scanning your own computer.
That should be open , unless you had firewall it out?

You have to enable port 21 on your router. You can do this in the section called "virtual servers" or something like that, and the IP address you input is of the FTP server machine (192.168.0.101)...NOT your ISP IP! Under Serv-U settings, DO NOT enter any IP addresses at all (I did at first and was not able to connect to server). On the client side you enter the IP of the WAN port (your ISP provided IP) on the router.
Also, you might not be able to test your FTP from within your router (depends on router) so have a friend act as the FTP client. I recommend CuteFTP Pro v2 as the client.
