Specs: Windows XP
hi at my workplace there network is all lan points to connect computers/laptops.usually not enough lan points available so in my wisdom i connected a bt home hub from lan point into lan connection 1 on router and it was wep secuired. now everyone in range in the workplace could connect to the wireless link worked ok. then i got pulled into the office as they say this caused some people not being able to log onto the network as there ip address was wrong. could just by adding a router to the system cause this or is it just coinsidance this happened.they say it was a breech of the companys security of the network.

"could just by adding a router to the system cause this "

yes if you didn't disable the dhcp server on the bt

"they say it was a breech of the companys security of the network."

Saying yes its a breach is mild. You would be fired at my company for doing what you did. WEP is no wireless security at all. You opened the company network to be easily hacked.

swany, you DID ask. Next time you have an idea regarding changing your network in any way, check with your IT Group.

You're lucky (and I'm personally surprised) you weren't fired.
