Server Issues

Specs: Windows XP
I have Windows XP on my Sony Vaio and have been experiencing some serious issues lately. My computer was running slow, so I went through my add/remove programs and removed some things that I never use. I’m aware this was not wise of me because I could have potentially deleted something that another program needed to operate. In any event, I think I’ve narrowed down the problem to being something wrong with my server. Here are the symptoms of my problem:
• I can’t log onto Skype nor can I download the latest version of Skype. When I try to log on, it does the log on screen for 20 seconds, then goes back to the sign on screen. When I try to download the new version, Skype tells me it has a problem connecting to my server.
• I can’t log on to any messaging programs including AIM and Yahoo Messenger. When I go to log on to them, it again says unable to connect to server.
• I’m unable to upload photos online. When I attempt to, a box pops up that says “The server attempted to redirect you, but server redirects are not supported.”
It is crucial I try to figure out the problem soon because I’m out of the country and need to use messaging programs to communicate back home. If you could offer any assistance, that would be incredible. Thank you.

Download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

I ran the program and it said "No malicious items detected."

When I attempted to update the program it gave me this error:
"Update failed. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and your firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to access the internet."

I don't know where/how to access my firewall or really what that means.

If you have any suggestions on what I should do next, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your help,
Stephanie

Try this test:
http://www.h-online.com/security/se...

This will test, whether your computer is infected by the conficker worm.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

If the update failed the scan is worthless. It fails sometimes because it has to run as administrator. I contacted the anti malware people about the problem & told them that when I used runas, the update worked. They were surprised.
