Sending files from my pc to my lapt

hi there everyone. Ive just managed to get my laptop connected to the internet via my netgear wireless router. but i cant seem to find out how to send files to the laptop. ive tried to use the sharing folders and have read the help file on the matter, but stil cant work it out. please could someone help me! the laptop is using vista basic, and the pc is on xp, so does this mean that i cant share my files between them, surely not!

Have you ran the 'Set up a Home or small office network' Wizard. I know this is on XP, and there is something that does the same on Vista. You need to set them up to be on the same work group (from the wizard or by right clicking on 'My Computer' go to properties and under the Computer Name make them the same name workgroup. You should be able share files between XP and Vista.

thanks for the reply, the laptop can now find the PC on its network page, but it still wont connect to it. it just says it cant connect. ive run out of ideas, so any input would be greatly appreciated. cheers
