Comment:

Is there any way to send a file over a network to another computer on the local network. I would really liek a way to do it on mac osx in terminal. Is there a unix command for this? I could also use a GUI app to do it. I could use windows and DOS or a gui app in windows, but i would like to keep it mac. I have the computer's local IP address.

Thanks

There are a number of ways to do this. If both the sending and receiving computer are MacOSX, you can use the unix programs SCP or SFTP at the command line. You could even use ftp if you want to bother setting up a server on one of the computers.

I get the impression from the way you asked your question that you may want to transfer files to a computer without its owner's knowledge or permission. Is that true? You will not be able to use either SCP or SFTP without knowing a username and password to logon to the receiving computer. You probably won't be able to use any other method either.

The easiest way would be to get a legitimate account on the receiving computer. The owner could easily set it up such that you only have access to transfer your files, and do nothing else, to the computer. If you don't have legitimate access, then what are you trying to do anyway?
