Hi All

Need some help with my network permissions over my network workgroup. I want to set it up so that the files shared from my server can b viewed, new files can be added but files can not be deleted from other computers accessing the files. The one thing i want though is to be able to remotley connect to the server and be able to delelte files from there. For some reason when i use the everybody permission and deny delete access for everyone i cant delete the files even from the server when i set up a seperate permission for the server of full access. any ideas why?

or any other help be great.

Cheers

Chris

Chris, first of all this question should have been posted in the Windows XP Forum. What you're referring to is "Share" permissions, not "network" permissions.

If you're an Administrator, then you should know the basic levels of permissions and rights before undertaking these tasks and setting and changing file and share permissions.

You say "when i use the everybody permission and deny delete access for everyone i cant delete the files even from the server when i set up a seperate permission for the server of full access". Did you Deny the Everyone Group in Share permissions, but allow access in File Permissions on the server? Because if you have, the Deny will overrule any other setting, as the most restrictive permissions will be in effect. It's best to manage by access allowed rather than Denying anything.

You said "new files can be added but files can not be deleted from other computers accessing the files." Access permissions are set for users and/or groups; not by computers. So you will need to setup the appropriate permissions for your users accessing the shares.

I think you really need to read up on how to setup and manage File and Share permissions before changing anything else.

Good luck.
Life's more painless for the brainless.
