Hi

I have a lynksys router to a cable modem. 2 computers are linked to the router by cable, and 2 by wireless. I have a home network setup.

Can you tell me how do i make the wireless ONLY for the 2 computers I have now? (ie stop unauthorised access to my network)

Also, I want to be able to access ALL files on one of the computers on the network from one of my other computers. (I have simple file sharing turned off) The only way I can seem to gain access is to add the user "Network" and give FULL permissions. Is this leaving me wide open to an attack??

Many Thanks

First off you need to close down all ports you aren't using. This is the first step to securing your network. I block all the unknown ports 1024-65,535 except a few exceptions for online games. 445 so ms sharing isn't accessable. Then add all the msblaster and worm ports [find with google.]

Use a wep key for your wireless and 128bit encryption. I narrow my dhcp range and then put in false mac addresses on those available ip addresses so no one can connect except if they had that mac address [not possible since it is a phony address]. This is called "address reservation" in my netgear.

I also load zonealarm on my pcs because I like it when it asks when a program or service wants to access the internet. I am not blind to what access is happening without my knowledge.
