i have a router connected to my desktop, however i believe someone is stealing my connection, therefor making my laptop's wireless internet really slow. how do i make my connection secure and with a password? thanks

You have to enable WEPs (wireless encryption protocol) on both your wireless laptop and you wireless AP (access point)/ wireless router...which everyone your using.
Details should be in the manual that came with your Wireless AP/router.

Also even better is to implement mac address filtering . This will keep everyone but the peoples machines who's mac address you input into the router .

mac filtering is very safe but if you're new to this stuff then 128bit wep encryption should be the best option for you for now! When you think of a keyword to use that generates the key on the ADSL/Wireless Router etc... Don’t make it too simple! Like anything simple it can be worked out or guessed! names and numbers but not your name or your date of birth!
This will produce 13 two digit codes that you will have to enter on your Laptop/Desktop etc... Job done!
