I apologize in advance if my problem has been addressed before - I search and lots of posts are close but no cigar.
Network is through a Gateway 2-wire (SBC issue: and BTW: I'm in the northeast: NOT Bell South!)
There's an X-Box 360 Live connected via ethernet and my daughter connects her Dell laptop wireless-ly without problems - everywhere: even from the upstairs where I'm having problems. My issues occur whether the X-Box or the Dell are online or offline.I had no problems with this Toshiba's wireless connection for two years. Now it's virtually worthless unless I am sitting right in front of the router. Speed: 2.0 - 5.5Mbps Connectivity: "Low" or "Poor" (formerly a steady 54Mbsp and "Excellent" connectivity) Connection through ethernet: fine. I haven't moved any furniture, changed any wiring, etc. etc.
Occasionally - NOT OFTEN - it will connect at 54/Excellent when booting up: but only for a few seconds: it immediately drops off to nothing.
I did have a hard drive failure / replacement last winter - that might have been around the time this started. I've tweaked and tweaked - followed all the suggestions I could find and nothing helps. I've spent hours on the phone with India - Toshiba. I have signed on to the Gateway page and checked the router settings: all seem fine. The Toshiba's "Strength" on the router page is set as high as it will go.
My daughter's Dell connects just fine where the Toshiba won't work at all.Is it possible I may have tweaked some setting while following *wrong* directions?
Or is it possible there is some setting that got set back to Default when my HD was replaced?
Or is the Toshiba's wireless card going?Input greatly appreciated: am considering opening window; throwing out Toshiba.

Dear AlisN1dlan
Once that your daughter is able to connect to your wirless network successfully without any kind of problems while you can't! and you are sure that your computer configured well to your wirless router and it works fine when you are sitting infront of your router, then appearantly the problem is coming from your wirless card.
I hope that helps you understand where the problem is coming from.
