I am troubleshooting a PC Anywhere connection problem on my server and found something to be odd to me. When i go to www.whatismyip.com from the server it returns an IP X.X.X.18

When i go to any other computer on my network and go to the same website, they all return the IP X.X.X.18 All IP's are the same, no matter computer i try it from.

I figure when a remote comp using PC Anywhere tries to connect to my server, and all the comps here are showing the same outside IP, PC Anywhere doesn't know who to connect to.

Am i right or am i missing something else? And if so, wheres the problem?

I guess that X.X.X.18 is your broadband's public IP that shared by all computers on the home/office network with PAT translation on the router. www.whatismyip.com will only show public IP.

You can enable port forwarding on the router to make PC anywhere works.

Hope helps..

If you go to a Command Prompt and type ipconfig it will show the IP address your computer is using. It will be different for each computer on the network and will probably be in the range 192.168.xxx.xxx

This is a Class C private address as apposed to the public address whatismyip.com is showing.

Thanks pico, i did already have the ports forwarded and after some thought i realized why the same IP was on all computers. i just needed a refrsher on the info.

But i still am having a problem with PCAny. the ports are forwarded (5631 & 5632 i think) and they are pointing to the address of the server i want it to. But i still cannot get a connection from the outside.

I took the PCAny home and set it on my home comp (which is also behind a linksys router). I forwarded the ports, set it up just like i did here at work. It works great because i can remote into it form my work. So i think i am setting PCAny up correctly but there must be something else blocking it.

One thing has changed here at work and i figure it has something to do with my Adtran. A couple of weeks ago we were hit pretty bad by lightning. Knocked out our Adtran, 3 of my switches, and 2 of my computers. Pretty nasty. Anyway, the Adtran (which brings in my T1 for internet and VOIP) was replaced. Is there ports in there that need to be forwarded? i did get into the Adtran and noticed the time was way off. It shows a date of June ?, 2007. I think i remember something about components not working well if the time doesnt match.

Any idea?

Thanks
