Ok im having this wierd problem n i dunno what to do abt it..
Therez this server on my network that has all the updates of software and games and all and to access it.. u gotta type \\entertainment in RUN..
when i do that.. it says "A device attached to the system is not functioning"
all the other users on my network can access it..
I tried accessing another server \\tracks
and still the same error.. my network admin says it some windows problem..Is there any way to solve it WITHOUT reinstalling windows?? plz help me out. thnx

might want to describe your network setup.
post the results of a ipconfig /all from this station and one from a working station.

Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion.Abstinence training clearly isn't working.

"A Windows problem?" Well, that certainly narrows it down. If this is a server you need access to, why isn't your Net Admin helping you troubleshoot the problem? It's probably related to permissions, but you're not really typing in enough information. You've entered the server name, but not the share name. For example \\entertainment\games would be a share name.
What happens if you try and map a drive to that server\share?

I do give enough information.. when i type in \\entertainment\games
it still gives the same error of "A device attached to the system is not functioning"
My network admin has given access permission to everyone on the network including me.. so thats not the issue and he says that my "RUN" isnt accepting network commands for sum reason and that i may have to reinstall windows..
I downloaded a couple of registry fix softwares and fixed the errors but it still wont work... dun wanna take the hassle of reinstalling each n everything thats y i wanna knw how i can make it work..
The server is accessible on all other machines on the network

Ok, try mapping a drive through the file explorer that's built into windows.
First, open it:
Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> Windows Explorer
or the quick dirty way:
Windows Key + E
Once you have it open, go into Tools >> Map Network Drive
Then enter your info there (ie: \\entertainment\games) and see if the drive doesn't map there.
If it does, then the netadmin is correct and somthing is FUBAR with your "Run" command (not likely in my estimation btw).
If it doesn't, then it's not the Run command but more likely the permissions on the share itself.

So what happens if you try mapping a drive to one of the shares? Regardless, your IT people should assist you with this.
