I have an emachine with XP and a Toshiba laptop that I just got a few days ago. I was wondering if I can run applications from the laptop that are on the emachine. I have them networked with a dlink wireless g router. Another question I have is that I can see the emachine on the laptop but I can't see the laptop on the emachine when I look in my network places, any ideas? Thanks.
You can't by default run applications. A common way is to remote desktop or use a type of vnc. VNC based apps are usually free for basic uses and work ok over a wired connection.
There are also other solutions to running remote applications. Some involve software and hardware solutions.
Consider also open sourced apps such as openoffice and others. I prefer usb apps such as portableapps.com offers.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
Vista will only let you see and share the public folder on the "c" drive itself. second check to see if you have network discovery on in the networking section of control panel.
