first of all, i have an ethernet card, and a 56k card.

if i go to start, settings, then to network connections. then click to create a new connection. then set up an advance connection, then i choose the option to accept incoming connections, i get an error that says:

Incoming connections depend on the routing and remote access service which was unable to start. For more information, check the system event log.

i dont get as far as choosing my device i want to use so i dont think it is my hardware (i plan on using the 56k modem if you were wondering). both things show up in device manager.

anyone know a fix?

Is the service running before you start the configuration or does the configuration attempt stop the service? If not running beforehand can you start it and then try the config?

If it is not set to start automatically it may not be running after a restart - after you restarted did you check the status before you tried the configuration?
