Reply: (edit)router allows you to connect to networks tegether using routable protocals, for example, netbeui is not routeable so you cant use a router to connect networks so you would use a bridge, just for example

Reply: (edit)A router works on layer 3 of the OSI model, it routes IP addreses and subnets. The Internet is make-up of of only IP addresses, so the Internet is made-up of 1000's and 1000's of routers. A bridge is a device that came before the router and it works at layer 2 of the OSI model. There are a few diff kinds of bridging. any CCNA or Network + book or you can look this up on whatis.com to find out more.
