i have a 4 ports router, when i connected 4 computers together, only one computer be able to connect to the internet, the others is not able to run the internet. any possibilities that this could happen?
yoo... nice nice ~

does the router give dhcp addresses to the workstations?
how have you configured the router?Golly gee wilerkers everyone! Learn to Internet Search

router configuration is done by one of the computer user in my house. he is not here at the moment and i can't contact him.
When im trying to configure the router, it requires user name and password. So i cannot configure it.
we are using the 5-port router from Genius.yoo... nice nice ~

If you have access to the computer that works, you can look at the setup and find if the router is broadcasting addresses. If you have the router manual, you could reset the router to delete the password. You could bypass the existing router by substituting a new router (this depends upon the ISP) but will probably work with most.

Perhaps your dad did this on purpose to keep you from downloading copyrighted material from KaZaa?

There are many possibilities, the most likely being the nonfunctional clients have their XP firewalls up and misconfigured. Disable the XP firewall on one of these and see if it connects now (the router has a built-in firewall so you don't really need one up on each client).
Next make sure the cables are connected properly. Switch cables between one of the non-working clients with the one that is and see if it connects now. If so the DHCP server in the router may be turned off and it's acting as a dumb switch. You'll need the admin account information to fix this, I'm afraid.
TCP/IP in all clients should be set to, "Assign IP Address automatically" and "Use DHCP server for WINS resolution". Reboot and see if they work now.

I have a similar problem. I have a linksys router and only one computer is working no matter how much I switch around the cables and no matter which of the 4 ports in the back I use.
On the computer that's not working, it says in network connections (I have XP) that it is connected. However, when I click on the LAN connection, it shows that I'm sending but not receiving any packets (this, and whatever I describe from hereon, is for both computers- remember, one works on the router, the other doesn't.)
By reading some message boards, I tried a packet test, and it said I was not losing any packets.
I noticed that when I click on the LAN connections and then go to the SUPPORT tab, the one that doesn't work is missing a default gateway address. It could be missing other things, I'm writing this without doing it hands on. But that stood out to me. The computer that was working had a default gateway address AS WELL AS AN ADDRESS TYPE ASSIGNED BY DHCP.
I've turned off firewalls and such, but that doesn't seem to have an affect because the computer the works with the router can have the windows firewall on and still work.
Any help would be appreciated,
