Hello. This problem is fairly recent occurrence and I really can not figure out a solution. My router, Netgear M814v2, will be feeding data nicely between the two computers hooked up to it, then suddenly one of the computers will suddenly get a drastic decrease in speed. The internet still works, but just fast enough for browsing. This is a real pain when playing games and the like.

I've checked the router when this happens, and the port/number light that my computer is on is no longer blinking while the other one is. This could mean possibly that the data isn't being transported to my computer nearly as fast. When I restart my computer, the other one on the router will suddenly lag out for like 10 seconds then reconnect. Then the connection is fine until it seems to time out later. I just figured if its timing out though, then I would completely lose the connection, not just lose speed. I assume it has something to do with the router freaking out with feeding the data, like I had to assign static ip addresses to even get a constant connection. Its old I think so maybe thats the problem. Firewalls are off. Ummm, I did uncheck QOS Packet Scheduler and the like in the properties for the network connection, could that be the problem?

Is it that I need a new router? Settings on my router perhaps? Any help will be greatly appreciated and I thank you for your time.

Routers do go bad but you haven't done any technical tests to prove anything.

See event logs, task manager, setup performance monitor. Test cables or swap. Use a live cd to rule out os and apps. Setup wireshare to monitor data. Secure the system by closing all ports. Borrow a router to swap and test.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
