Hi there,

I have used up the 4 available ports on the back on my adsl router.

As I understand my router can take a maximum of 255 computers, so can I just plug my Netgear Ethernet Hub into an available port on the router then plug my computer into the hub?

Just wanted some clarification

Thanks

Yes you can. If the hub has an up-link port, just plug a straight through cable between the hub and router. If there is no up-link port on the hub you may need to use a cross-over cable.

However bear in mind that the ports on the router will probably have a speed of 100 Mbs second wheres bubs are only 10 Mbs. Depending on what you use the network for, you probably wont notice the difference anyway.

Thanks for the info Stuart, the hub/switch I have is a NETGEAR FS108, it says it supports 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing connectivity.

So shold be fine.

Thanks

Even if it doesn't have an uplink port, you can just use a crossover cable and go port to port. As a rule of thumb, when connecting like devices it's always best to use a crossover cable.

If both devices are 100 Mbps capable you should get the full 100 Mbps without any trouble.
