I have been successfully using my desktop and the wireless router for my laptop for a couple of years. I just bought a new laptop today and cannot get it to connect to the router. it shows the connection availability but asks for a password. I know I used my phone number, but it is not working. I tried resetting the password on the website, no luck. I am running vista on the new laptop, that isn't the problem because that is what I was running on the old one. The router is a linksys WRT54 S. I am trying to set this up for my son to take to school, so time is limited. any help or guidance would be appreciated.

hey man.. you sure that password is ok?
try to make a routing again e create a new password
you can write your password in a txt file and save with backups.

It is actually asking for the Wireless Encryption Password, you need to go to Linksys and download the Manual!

It's wireless network preshared key, it can be WPA, WPA2 or WEP. Just log on to your wireless router management page, and then go to wireless -> wireless security section and check for the key. If still having problem, take a look on this wireless router configuration help.

thank you all for your help. I have tried everything. the weird thing is that it is working on my laptop just fine, it is the new laptop that wont work. I keep track of all passwords so I am sure of it. When I go to connect it asks for the "secured passphrase"

Ithank you for your help. I reset the password on the router, then had the "key" automatically generated. That wa the problem, I was entering the password and not the passkey. I reset the router and all is working fine now, thanks again.
