I have been having intermittent disconnects with either my Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI or Linksys WRT54GS router. I can't go one day without being on the internet and losing connection at some point during the day. After a few minutes it goes back to normal? This is a problem between the Laptop and the router, nothing futher than this.

The problem started when I changed the wireless security settings from WEP to WPA2. To get WPA2 to show up on my "laptops" I had to install WPA2 WPS IE update for Windows XP with SP2 found here

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;893357

The 1350 card has the latest drivers from Dell 3.120.27.0 and the router has the latest Linksys firmware 4.70.6. I have two laptops: inspiron 1150 and a Lattitude d600 both using same 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI card with same ver. drivers 3.120.27.0 and both setup the same during my quest for wireless security. I use Windows to manage my Wireless Settings so Wirelss Zero is enabled. Also, both network adapter support wireless auto configuration.

It worked fine before using WEP and I don't believe there is interference going on because 1. It worked before with WEP 2. Netstumbler shows I'm the only network around 3. there is no 2.4ghz phone or device near or neighboring me.

I have tried switching to different channels on the router and still the same problem. I have reset the router a few times to see if it will fix itself and again no luck. Something isn't playing well together.

Using Windows XP SP2 on Inspiron and XP Pro SP2 on Lattitude. Forgot to add that the signal shows being strong.

Now. I am open for suggestions.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Carlos

Disable wireless zero. Let the linksys management utility manage your wirelss connection, see how it goes. But the larger questions I would ask (were I in your situation):
Has your quest for wireless security gotten in the way of computing enjoyment? What really is the risk/benefit of lesser security? If you're the only network around, perhaps a risk management approach is more suited for your situation. My WRT54GS is running firmware v3.37.6. My wife's dell laptop ( very confidential data used) and my daughter's dell pc work well with this router using plain old WPA-Preshared key. Have you considered a hard reset of the router back to factory defaults?
