I have a linksys Wireless -G router and similiar card. Despite having a strong signal strength and clarity, the router will not assign an IP address to the card. DHCP is enabled on the router and automatically obtain is enabled on the laptop. I've tried switching from infrastructure to ad hoc mode and nothing happens. I've even tried to statically assign it and still can't get out. I have 2 other desktops hardwired on the same network and they are fine. Any ideas? Thanks

Do you has Mac address filtering on?
Encryption enabled?

Does this work with your computer wired into the router?

Thanks for responding. MAC filtering and WEP (64 bit) are enabled. I can get an IP address when using the onboard nic with cat 5.

Have you tried temporarily disabling WEP and MAC address filtering one at a time to trace it to one of those?

Are you associating with the router ? Do you have matching SSID's on the router and client card ? Also if you are running WEP then the keys must match exactly . If you are mac filtering then the mac address of the client card must be put in the router .

Got it going guys. It ended up being a problem with WEP. Once I disabled it, it starting working. Now, I have to figure out how I'm gonna enable security, but that's a different thread. Thanks for your help.

WEP sucks anyway. Go WPA-PSK. :-)
