Hi, i have a strange problem thats confusing me, I'm using Verizon DSL and a LinkSYS BEFSX41 router. The problem is while using the router my dsl speeds are horrible, downloads will only go to about 2% then timeout and internet webpage loading(mainly images) is pretty bad. But when not using the router and connecting directly to the modem the speed is fine... any ideas what could be wrong. Do i need a special cable to go from modem to wan port on router?

I don't think you need any special cables. just connect the router between your modem and pc. You may want to check the settings of your router. Maybe someone else who has had the same problem can help you.

This is a reported occurance.
Upgrade the firmware. Input local DNS addresses into your client TCP/IP settings.
There is a small possibility that the RFI interference from some device is killing your data as it goes down the pipe. If there is a microwave running on top of the router, turn it off and move it across the room.

If you have upgraded your LinkSys router firmware to version 1.44.2 (check on Setup page and the Status page), try resetting the router to default settings.
On the Advanced - Filters page, make sure the MTU: setting is Disabled. Enabling this and setting the wrong value can break up the MTU packet size and cause such problems.
Cable length from modem to Router is not critical (its only 10Mb) but you should still use a short Cat5 cable, as rolling a long one into a coil can degrade signal a little.
Also check your download speed both ways using the speedtest site. Also, run the tweaks tests both ways and see what it tells you.
Try plugging the system into a different port position.
