I have a huawei router mt800 with a dsl connection. i have enabled the router to dial by itself and am not using the winxp pppoe dialer. the router seem to connect to the internet properly but disconnects randomly when i am downloading or browsing. i have a mtu value of 1472 which i found out by ping -f -l 1472 192.168.1.1 where the ip is the default gateway or the ip of router. there shd be no problem with line becoz it connects perfectly with the inbuilt dialer. can somebody help me. waiting for reply
thanks and regards

Typically this is a transient in the phoneline. Even though you "connect perfectly", the line drop out at random intervals. It's one of the drawbacks to DSL. Talk to your provider and get them to monitor the line. It's about all you can do.

you can always change ports on the router and replace the patch cable inbetween the router and computer just to make sure that is not the problem

The other thing i forgot to mention is after disconnecting it takes a long time for the router to redial and in between it gives failed to get ip address messages. further when i enable my winxp pppoe it has even stayed alive for 24 hrs minimum thats why it gives me a doubt it would be a problem with the line. josh, what about port changing in router i dont understand that can u explain it. also are u speaking about the cat 5 cable as replacement
thanks and regards

most routers have a 5 port switch built on them, the cat5 cable run inbetween your router and your computer...change ports on your router (which is what the end of your cable plugs into on the router) and yes the cat 5 cable, try a different cat 5 cable inbetween the machine and router...
