I have 2 ips with road runner. Hub connected to modem. From hub 1 ip goes to wife's personal computer. 2d ip goes to my office. In office have 2 Dell Pentium 4, 2 gig mem computers. Want to connect them through router. Bought Linksys router. Didn't work. Linksys chat says my config impossible. Router MUST be connected to modem. Is there a workaround w/ Linksys router? Will another router do the job?

Linksys chat was wrong. Lots of folk have your exact config.
Though you would be much smarter to connect the router to the modem and get your wife's pc behind NAT for a higher level of internet connection.
Was the routers wan port set to dhcp? Should be a piece of cake to connect to the hub.
Without the router hookup can you get either of your office pcs on the internet?

Doesn't seem to be a way to change Linksys wan port config. How would one do this?
Re your question: Yes. Can connect to internet w/both computers when separately attached to cable coming from hub.

So we know you get multiple ip addresses so that is not an issue.
You have to logon to the router to configure the wan port. Have you ever done so?
what model linksys?

First off, thank you very much for your prompt and informed responses. Much appreciated.
Second: No I've never logged on to the router. How is this done?
Thanks again.

Just confirms the crappy Linksys support.
What model do you have so I can lookup the docs?
BTW routers are not plug and play. You always need to configure them if only to make them more secure so others can't access them.

Ok to connect the router to your existing setup and have it work you would have to connect a LAN port on the router to the hub you already have in place. You would of course then have to configure the LAN side of the router with the correct TCP/IP information.
However!
You should have the modem plugged into the router, all PC's behind the router (set to get their TCP/IP info automatically from DHCP).
This provides the highest level of security while allowing multiple PC's to access the internet. If you run out of LAN ports on the router to plug PC's into, you then plug your hub into one, and more clients into the hub.
I highly recommend you go this route instead of the way you have things setup now unless you have a very specific need for your wife's computer to be hanging out on the internet the way it is presently.
Oh, and as an added bonus, if you're paying extra $$$ for two WAN IP's, you can tell your ISP you don't need a second one and save yourself some $$$.

Here is your manual
http://support.radioshack.com/suppo...
first thing you want to do is change the account password from the default to something you only know. Write it down and place it under the router so you don't forget what it is.
Then go to the wan config page and set it to recieve dhcp ip.

Once again, many thanks!
I've saved the manual you suggested, and will try things out tonight or tomorrow.

CurtR,
Thanks for your time. Unfortunately I do have to have my wife's computer on a separate network.
Thanks again.
