Comment: I have a Netgear rp614 router. It has 1 WAN port (IEEE 802.3i (10BASE-T) Ethernet, RJ-45) and 4 LAN ports (IEEE802.3i (10BASE-T) Ethernet Specification or IEEE 802.3u (100BASE-TX) Fast Ethernet (auto-sensing), RJ-45). Currently, I only have dial-up internet access. I have an old pc with windows 98 SE on it, along with proxyplus software (SOCKS5 compatible). I also have two client computers connected to the LAN (all three computers are on the LAN ports). I would like to use the DHCP server of the router, which provides the default gateway to be the router itself, which is not hooked up to any internet connection and is therefore invalid (or unusable, anyway). I would also like to minimize the client configuration (in other words, get rid of the proxy server and use the default gateway instead). Is it possible to connect the computer with the modem to the WAN port on the router and give the LAN internet access through the router, which then goes through the dial-up computer? Essentially, I want the computer with dial-up to act like a slow cable modem: transparent. Is this at all possible?

Reply: (edit)The best thing to do would be to turn off the DHCP in the router set a static IP on the NIC in the PC with the internet acces. Download a proxy software that has built DHCP and let it control the IP's and NAT for the other 2 PC's. Other wise replace the router with a LAN modem. Setup the LAN modem with your ISP info and let the LAN modem control internet access for all 3 PC's.
