Hiya,

To me , this sounds like Rome Total War ( RTW from hereon! ) needs to set up inbound TCP sessions from the game server to your PC in order to establish online game connectivity.

These session attempts will be blocked by the firewall function of your router. The reason for this is because your router doesn't expect an inbound session attempt unless your PC requests one itself, so it silently discards the connection request - the upshot of this is that you can't play online.

Having googled for this, I have found out that RTW needs to have a whole raft of TCP sessions established to your PC. Therefore, you will need to set up a couple of port forwarding rules on yuor router.

The following URL describes the steps required to set up Rome Total War on a Netgear WGT624v3 router :-

Hope this helps,
Cheers, Lofty.

Hi,

The service name is not really that important - it is merely a tag for you to know what the port forwarding rule is about. You can use any name for a rule ( as long as it is unique I think ).

Given that you have to set up 9 rules here, you could use rules names RTW1, RTW2 ... RTW9, it really doesn't matter. Just as long as the service name is meaningful to you so that you know what the rules are for.

The important thing with setting up port forwarding rules is knowing what protocol ( i.e. TCP, UDP or both ) that you wish to apply this rule to, which port number and the IP address of your PC that you wish to forward the traffic to.

Hope this helps,
Cheers, Lofty.
