A friend had a service man install a cable modem (Roadrunner)in his apartment, it worked fine for a day, and when he turned on the computer the next day, windows couldn't come up, it said the files could not be located. He tried it on another computer, it worked fine, but the same thing happened the next day. There were no problems previous to the cable hook up. The modem company was called, as was the computer company, and they said they had no idea why this happened. Seems strange that the same thing happened to 2 different computers. Any ideas? It was a Compaq computer running windows 2000. Thanks!

The cable company has nothing to do with that problem. Did you load some game or program and then re-moved it? I think some program was un-installed the wrong way...

well you did not say whether he had it behind a firewall and whether file and print sharing was turned on or off. My guess is he was hacked and that is his problem. with aslways on internet if you leave your computer on without a firewall thats asking for trouble
