I just realized that when I asked Radio Shack for rj45 connectors they gave me "Modular Plug cat5e compatible". I am not using cat5e, but I am using cat5. Does it matter?

cat5e is actually better (cat5 enhanced), although it does matter if you got the wrong type. it's either straight-thru or crossover cable.

I know cat5e is better. My question is: Does it matter that the connector says "cat5e compatible", when I'm only using cat5? Nowhere on the package does it say cat5, just cat5e.
