there is a differnce. the patch cord uses a RJ45 designed with two straight prongs for stranded copper that penetrate the stranded copper and the RJ 45 that is used on solid copper has bent displaced prongs that grab the solid copper wire. if you use the worng ones on either you will have failures in the future especially when the cables are repeatedly moved.
