Hi All,

I have a 3Com wireless NIC that has been working until recently. I did some diagnostics and I have good signal connection, the drivers are good and working, but when I went to look at the ipconfig, I found the NIC card is not acquirring an IP address (I have it configured for DHCP). I tried IPCONFIG /RENEW_ALL, but still no luck - came back with the same bogus 169.254.x.y addressing. I know my HomeConnect AP is peforming DHCP correctly, because my Desktop is receiving addressing accordingly. I have a dual boot Win98/Win2k on my laptop. Tried resetting in both but no luck. Anyone got any ideals?

acquiring a new IP depends on the server and the term length of the lease.

But I know you can force an unscheduled release...thus the reason for the IPCONFIG/RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW command. Thanks anyway mike.

A 169.254.xxx.xxx address is an APIPA address. When you see one, you know the client with that IP is not getting it's DHCP assigned IP properly. Renewing won't help...you're not contacting the DHCP server.

You know your router is assigning IP's properly on your LAN but isn't receiving it's IP info from the DHCP server your ISP is running so the problem is either the external connection on your router, or the ISP's DHCP server.

just because you "release" does NOT mean that the server is going to give you a DIFFERENT IP.
