hoping someone can help.
i have windows server 2003 sp1 running behind a netgear fwag114 router which i am also using as a dhcp server [bcz i couldnt figure out how to make the server a dhcp server from behind the router, but thats another issue, the router does its job fine]
isp - verizon
ip static
all win xp sp2 clientsi want an internal domain, just for logging in from clients. no web hosting, no bells or whistles, i just want to be able to log on to company.local, and be able to share the other server functions, like file and printer sharing, shared docs, ect..
for over 2 weeks i have been reading everything on dns i can find, even purchasing 2 books [at an extreme cost, they were almost 50 bucks each!!, and useless]
im afraid that all these books take something for granted, that i know where to obtain the correct info to put in the config.
i can probably recite the steps to installing a dns server, bcz i have done it at least once a day for 16 days. but it never works, and i end up reinstalling server 2003, not just dns server.
i want 'company.local' to be my domain.
i want to forward external queries to my isp's dns servers.
i want to share files, printers, storage, with all clients.
eventually, i might want to roll out an actual intranet site for the company, but id really just like to connect them all to a domain before i get grey hair and start breaking equipment out of frustration. [j/k, kind of...]
can anyone help with the correct configuration?
my isps dns servers are 151.198.0.38/39
my lan is basic default settings. router is 192.168.0.1 and serves as gateway and dhcp server
server is 192.168.0.2, and is reserved in the router
subnet is 255.255.255.0
thanks in advance
