Hi,
I'm facing a problem after I replaced the surecom hubs with D-Link (DES-1024D) switches in my network. I had surecom hubs , RTL8139(x) network cards and cat 5 cable. Now the problem I've is that few machines do not come on the network at all with the switch whereas with hub there is no problem, changing the network connector also did not help me, then I changed the autonegotiate / automatic mode to 10 mbp full duplex on these cards and it worked. but the same type of cards without any change are working fine. what could be the problem? Have I forgotton the basic crimmping :-(another thing I want to ask If the card is a 10/100 mbps, the switch is also 10/100 mbps and there is no connectivity problem then how long a file copy will take if the size is 35 mb? it is currently giving me 35-50 seconds? is it okay or too slow? if slow then kindly guide me how to improve it.
regards
Rajeev

more factors than network bandwidth go into a file transfer. Hard drive speed is critical.
If same cards but different speed its your cabling. Appears some is under par. Rent a cable tester.
Knowing the correct answer and giving a correct answer, are two different things

Three unmanaged switches in a row is usually a no-no. Are your "lost" computers attempting to connect with a machine/resource that's three switches away?
"If it ain't broke, upgrade anyway."

Hi tropic,
Even if I put these machines on the same switch it do not work.Hi wanderer,
The machines have same configuration, these are P-IV 3.0 with Intel Original 915 Motherboard, 80 GB SATA HDDs, 1 GB 400 MHz DDR1 RAM.Rajeev
