I have an issue with my DHCP sever on my Linksys BEFSR41 Router (At least it may be that). Ok, I was attempting to retrieve files from another computer on my home network when I realized that the computer that I wanted to send files to could neither see other computers on the network nor been seen by other computers on the network. (I know this is a common problem, but I assure you that Windows is setup correctly to work with other computers on the network). While trying to discover the reason for this problem I discovered that the LAN IP for the computer did not fall within the IP Range set on the DHCP server on the router (192.168.1.100 - 50 users). Its IP address was 168.192.0.3. I never suspected there was anything wrong with this computer since it connected to the internet fine. Thinking that this might be the cause of the network issue though, I of course, released and renewed, but with no success. The IP address remained at 168.192.0.3 (The address is not set to static). Finally, to understand what might be happening I disabled the DCHP sever on the router. And then, to my surprise, after I released and renewed the IP address it came back again to 192.168.0.3. And was still able to connect to the internet. Most postings on the intenet deal with problems with not being able to contact the DHCP or getting internet. This is something I haven't seen before. By the way, all of the other computers on the network do follow the DCHP rules of the router (192.168.1.101, 192.168.1.102, etc...). Thank you in advance for your help!

I never saw that before but I would have shut down the router and that PC. Yhen, restart the router and the PC in that order. Sometimes things have to be resynched. If it happens again try that. If you still have probelems, check for a loose NIC or a pinched cable.

Thank You don2005!

I remembered there was a netgear switch before the computer, which goes to a Replay TV unit. After connecting directly to the router the problem was solved. (Address and Networking) Sorry =(. But I still dont know how I was a able to get the intenet with the DHCP sever down on the router. There is still a problem though since I would have to disconnect and bypass the Netgear switch just to veiw other computers on the network. Is there a reason or a way to fix this? The model of the Netgear unit is RP114 (Web Safe). Here is a model of the setup:

PC -----> Hub -----> Router-----> Internet
.................|

.................v
.............Replay TV

I'm not familiar w/ Replay TV but what happens if you run that directly to the router and leave the other machines connected to the netgear switch?
You could also try that reboot thing in the order I mentioned before adding the switch in the loop.

I think you were able to still access the net even though the DHCP server stopped becuase the lease on the other NIcs were still good. That's the only thing that comes to mind.
