LEGAL NOTE **I am NOT trying to steal a wifi signal, the example I am using is only used for testing for when I need to connect to an outdoor wifi router that cannot be configred on a wired connection.**
I have a D-Link DI-810+ (Bridge) and a DI-624+ (Router), When doing a site survey I find 6 wifi signal's ... When I connect to my routers signal and go to local connections and repair it repairs fine. There is al
so one other signal that does not blong to me but its one in my wifi range that I can do the same thing on; however on the other 4 signals I encounter the following problem, the following repair step failed 'Renewing the IP Address' ... When I connect to the XBOX it says the same, the IP cannot be confirmed... None of these signals have an encription so I don't know why this is occuring. Also when I try to release all renew all on Command Prompt I have the same problem. Is there anyway to fix this problem.

Well the one I'm trying to connect to is supposed to be a local connect thats supposed to be public... Wouldn't people normally use encription instead of mac filtering if they diddnt want people to use there signal? Is there a way around mac filtering? I'd be supprised that my neghibors would use mac filtering, all there SSID's were still default. If I were to manuelly configure the Internet Protocall to the correct IP settings would it work then?

Is there a way to get around MAC filtering? Why, yes: Contact the owner and ask his permission. After all, if as you say it's a public node he shouldn't mind adding your MAC to his network. Going any further requires hacking tools and that crosses the line between "testing" and "theft of service".

Yes I can ask for permission, but what do I do when I get the mac adress. Or does he/she need to turn filtering off... What I'm asking here is how does it work.

You don't get his MAC address, you give him yours and he enters it into his list of allowed clients.
