Install tweakui it's somewhere on the win98 install cd. Not included in the standard software so you'll have to install it directly from the cd. I think it's in the tools directory somewhere. Once it's installed you'll get an extra icon called tweak ui in the control panel. There you can select it to automatically log on to the network. You can also modify something in the registry but I don't remember where that was.

Easiest way to resolve this: Right on Network Neighbourhood & select properties.
Locate the drop down menu titled "Primary Network Logon". Change the drop down menu to read "windows logon"
Now ok the "network" window. The computer should ask for a restart. If the computer displays the password box during start up .. click "ok" without entering anything.. This should solve the problem without being totally intrusive to the system.

1/1/2002 I applied the response number 3 procedure since it appeared the safest. It worked instantly and perfectly. I am using a home PC, MSN DSL connection, Win98 second edition with all current MS critical updates installed. IE 5.5, and Google (wow best search engine ever), in case any of that makes a difference. I am in your debt. Thank You. Sincerely Dan
