To save having to go round the twelve computers on the network and individually close a word document, can I close them all from one command one one computer
Thank you ...This happens a lot

Workers who leaves documents open, should deserve the agony of losing a few documents.
Closing the document is only half the problem. If there are changes should you save them or just close them. My solution has been to save to another name then close without saving. This means an angry worker looking for their precious document with the changes some time in the future.
A don't have a one command solution. But to save walking, you could install a version of remote desktop, then log into each workstation, and terminate each job as applicable. This may bring up a privacy issue.

Easiest way is to close the document on the server. You can see the list of open files within computer management on the server. Then you just select the particular file and close it there.
Otherwise, if you knew they had left for the day but left it open (or something similar) you could remotely kill the application itself if you have admin rights on the remote computers. Assuming they are all XP, from the command line try this:
taskkill /s remotepcname /f /im winword.exe
You could add multiple lines for multiple pc's, and save as a batch script. (type the lines to a text file, and save as .bat instead of .txt.

Firecodex
CCNA/MCSA/MCP/A+/Net+

There are also solutions that will allow you to set up a shared space where people much check in/out documents. So they would never be opening a document directly from the server. They would have to download it, make changes and then check in the new version.
