Comment: What is the best and safest way to remotely access a file on a server running NT4.0 from any Desktop or Laptop running WIN98? I do not want to use Remote Desktop, Terminal services, or FTP.

Reply: (edit)What's wrong with Terminal Services or Remote Desktop? I have used both and think they are pretty slick. Is there some big security breech I'm missing? btw, https is http (hyper text transfter protocol.. like you see on web sites). The 's' on the end stands for secure. I'm not positive how it's set up.

Reply: (edit)Is the server running telnet? port 23 would be open if it is.... Do you need to get the file securely? use https if it is, you should get a 128 bit encrypted tunnel if the server is running ssl (secure socket layer). Is the file you want to get in the web root? if so, then http or ftp for non encrypted and if not then you could "share" the file, but I would not leave that enabled for to long...... Sounds like pc anywhere or some other remote software to me...
