Comment:

I'm running Win 2003 server as a domain controller and a terminal server. We use cablelynx.com through a SB5100 modem. The modem outputs to a Dell Truemobile 1184 wireless router in infastructure mode. The router acts as my DHCP server, and correctly assigns local ip's to the 15 computers in the office (192.168.2.2-100). In the router, I have forwarded 3389 on both TCP and UDP for my server (192.168.2.12). I'm able to access remote desktop from within the LAN, but the port forwarding fails to get me through from the outside. The peculiar thing is that http://www.whatismyip.com shows the same WAN ip for every pc in the office including the server. When I type this ip in my browser, i'm brought to the truemobile's config page. What will it take to get me in from the outside? Please help, I'm out of ideas. Thanks so much...

That's not peculiar, that's exactly what would be expected. That is the external IP address of your router - the IP that everything you connect to on the internet sees.

"When I type this ip in my browser, i'm brought to the truemobile's config page."

Sounds like your router allows for remote administration. Again, this is not out of the ordinary. However, many people turn this feature off if not needed as an added security precaution.

The one thing you have not stated is what happens when you attempt to connect through Remote Desktop using the external IP? What errors are displayed, if any? One thing to make sure is that you are attempting to connect with an EXTERNAL computer. Do not try to connect to this machine from a computer on the same LAN using the external IP.
