I have an in-home network.
Main desktop runs win2k pro
Laptop runs winXP pro
I'm try to set up a remote desktop configuration so I can connect to my desktop at home with my laptop from work. I can connect to the laptop for a remote desktop connection from the desktop, but I can't connect from the laptop to the desktop for a remote desktop connection. I installed software on the desktop machine from the XP install disk as instructed, but something isn't right. Please help me debug this setup.
Thanks

My understanding w2k pro has no remote on it system I would try to install vnc software it is free but kind of slow here the link
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

If you're talking about simply connecting the two PC's to share files the simplest thing is a NIC in each and a crossover cable between them. Assign one PC the IP address 192.168.0.1 and the other 192.168.0.2 and ensure they both have the same workgroup name.

PC's running Windows 2000 (and XP/NT/CE etc) can CONNECT TO a PC running Windows XP Professional but the remote desktop connection software doesn't permit connections to a WinNT/2k PC at all. VNC is a good option but either way a broadband connection is needed.

These people have no idea what their talking about, so just ignore their posts, and pay attention to me.
Firstly, on your windows 2000 machine, install windows terminal serverices, its in the windows setup part of add/remove programs, next, download the terminal services client for windows XP, google it or poke around the MS site.
From there is pretty easy, just get the IP addy of the internet adapter for your 2k box, then type that into the TS client program you downloaded earlier.
