My Daughter's office has been set up for all the Veterinarians to connect to the office using their home computers with remote desktop. She has been able to do this for over a year. Now she cannot connect, everyone else has no problem. Most of the attempts result in this error message: The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator.
The server administrator said no one else had a problem and did not know what that error message meant.
I took my dual boot laptop to her home and I cannot connect either with windows but can with Linux. I had a live CD of Mepis with me and her computer can connect using it. That is the temporary solution. I can connect from the windows side on the laptop after returning home. Renewing the IP at her home made no difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Generally speaking the error message means what it says, you have no more licenses. You need a license for each person/computer that wishes to connect.

Has there been a new addition or two to the remotely connecting staff lately?

I'm surprised the "server administrator" can't figure this out. What I said would be the first place I would start looking. In case you're wondering, I double quoted server admin because from the sounds of it, your server admin, isn't much of one. If your admin can't figure it out, you might try hiring a professional consultant to get things working for you.

Thank you for the comments. There was a new addition but it was several months ago.

That doesn't seem to be the culprite then as it would have effected it right away.

Check into the TS licensing next. It's possible something got changed.

Adding a variant to what Curt R said, the licenses may be for active connections, not total possible connections. So getting connected or not may depend on how many others are already connected.

Also, licenses tend to expire if they are not renewed properly and timely; meaning the number of licenses available may have been recently reduced.

The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator.

Cause: The license server might not have any remaining Per Device CALs to issue.

Solution: Use Terminal Server Licensing to determine the number of CALs remaining on the license server. To open Terminal Server Licensing, click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and then point to Terminal Server Licensing. If the license server does not have any remaining CALs to issue to clients, purchase and install additional CALs as required

a quick google search of the error message goes to....
