I was wondering if I could use my computer at work to connect to my home computer. If so how? and is it possible to control my computer so that I could make it download things while at work.

My computer is connected via a hub to my cable modem

As long as your work firewall doesn't prevent it, you could buy pcanywhere and load it on your home machine. Make sure to password protect it or everyone can access your home machine. Then load the pcanywhere client on your work machine and connect it. You will be remote controlling your home computer.

If you wanted to do this cheaply, download the latest version of Microsoft Netmeeting and use the Remote Desktop Sharing feature. It acts just like PcAnywhere in that you control your remote desktop.
