Hi
I need to set up a remote connection from my home pc to my work pc.
Work pc has a Dlink router with 4 pc's coming off it all with DHCP assigned but the pc i want to get on to is always on so uses the same ip pretty much unless router or pc crashes. Work has a static IP address to get on the web
I've used dameware to connect to mates pc's before but thats with no router.
I'm coming from a pc at home behind a router as well
Both with Winxp Pro
I've got an idea i need to use port forwarding but has anyone got the basics i need to do?

On the router you'll have to port forward whatever port the remote software you're using to the IP of the PC you want to connect to.
I have a D-Link DI-604 router and connect to home from work all the time using RDC (remote desktop connection). I have port # 3389 forwarded to the IP of my main PC. When I fire up RDC at work and enter my IP address (ISP's provided IP address, not my internal Class C private IP address) I connect and get the windows login where I enter the username/password and I'm in.

Take a look at remote desktop on the server. That may do what you want.
