How do i remotly administrate or connect to the network at my office? i have looked a vpn's but canot justify the price. is there any software that will enable my to do this? remote assistance isnt really an option because someone would have to be at the office to accept the connection. any help please.

There are several software packages available to do that....the first that comes to my mind is PCAnywhere.

If the machines at work that you want to remote admin are Windows XP Pro, then they have Remote Desktop. That would be the ticket.
How is VPN not cost effective? If you get a router that has VPN endpoints, that shouldn't be too much! Netgear offers a basic VPN router for under $100 with an 8 port switch.

Depends on where you want the VPN endpoint to be. With yours, you need a server accepting VPN connections to be the endpoint.
Actual VPN routers allow the router itself to be the endpoint, which has some security advantages.
