Hi all,
Ok long story short, I am moving and my boss wants me to continue working for him. I work on his digital images for him blah blah. My question is that I will be a few hundred miles away, and what I want to know is how can I set it up so that, I will be able to upload files from my computer directly onto his hard drive. We will both be using XP home, and will have cable modems. Is it possible to set up his computer as a server or something, so that I can just ftp into it, or do I need a program to do this, I am completely lost. ANy help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

either get pc anywhere so u can control his computer ..and use ftp program to upload and download files to his computer..there's a program u can use to do this..and its called ws_ftp. Just to a search on the net for this..and its free.

Your're best bet is a program like PC Anywhere that is simple.
Otherwise, you will need a server or a Virutal Private Network. An ftp server (mentioned above, ws_ftp) is fine. However this involves mild administration, setup, etc. This may not be allowed by your/your boss' ISP.
A VPN connection needs a router on either end that supports VPN and must also be allowed by your ISP.
So use PCAnywhere. If your boss is not keen about you using his PC, then setup an old/cheap box.

In additition to Tum, PcAnywhere includes file transfer so you wouldn't need third party software for that purpose.
Some other possible options:
VNC

Dameware NT Utilities
(www.dameware.com)Or if you can figure it out, setup a VPN.
Virtual Private Networking

if you both have cable modems and aren't behind a NAT, you can simply use windows netmeeting to accomplish your goal. Or better yet you can use microsoft chat to transfer files.
