I need to access my office from home what software is best?
and cheapest . ....why pay a monthly fee!!!

If you have highspeed internet at both ends your best bet would be a highspeed internet router that allows VPN passthrough located at your office. Set it up to allow remote access and port forward the appropriate port to the PC you wish to connect with. No extra software required for this as you can connect with Remote Desktop (built into XP).

There are a lot of ways.
If you want cheapest....
it would cost you $0 if,
1.) your office has a server (a computer with server operating system like Windows 2000 server, or Small Business Server 2003, etc.).
2.) you at least have DSL or Cable at your office (could use dial-up but I'm not going to go there).
3.) your office request or has a static IP address (just about any Internet Service Provider (ISP) has the option to change from a dynamic IP address to a static IP address at $0 cost (if your's doesnt...change ISP, or tell your ISP your leaving,,,I bet they give you one at $0).
Now all you need is the knowledge on how to configure a VPN at home, and a VPN on the server at the office, and like Taco Bell - "Your Good to Go"...
There are plenty of post on here on how to config VPNs, or better yet...type it in the help section on your Start Menu and it will give you step by step directions.D
