Is there a way to remotely connect to my computer using remotepc or similar and use my dialup connection (I have the 56K modem device plugged in) like I would if I was in front of it ?

Similarly is there any hosting service that offers Windows VPN or dedicated server with Dialup modem where I would be able to do the same thing.

Thank you for your assistance

J

OK I see one of two things:

1) You have highspeed and want to connect to your PC remotely via the highspeed in order to then use dialup

2) You have no internet except for the dialup.

1 - Sounds (excuse me for being rude) stupid to me. "I'll connect on my fast connection to my PC at home so I can then dialup the internet and slow go.....real......slow......"

2 - How do you plan on connecting remotely to begin with if this is the case?

Sorry but, what you're asking makes no sense.

To connect to the remote PC/laptop you would need it to be connected to the internet, or be able to wake it up! Wake-on-Ring dialup Modems require a motherboard which supports:

Stupid question ? Wow such a wise answer.

I need to connect through dialup to a access particular application than can only be access through dialup. That's the reason.

Just want to be able to do remotely what I am able to do in front of my PC which is connecting through the internet through a dialup modem. Regardless of the current connection or speed.

Any useful suggestions ?

You cannot connect to a dial-up modem via broadband, you need another dial-up modem.

If you want to connect to the remote computer via broadband and then have the remote computer initiate a dial-up connection to some other computer then it can be done but you will need some custom software to do it. I don't know of any off-the-shelf software that will do.

You would be better off telling us exactly what it is you are trying to achieve and probably someone might come up with a solution instead producing an unworkable solution and asking how to implement it.

Stuart

It is possible to configure a computer so that it acts as a RAS or "dial-in" server. PCanywhere could do this. But, you had to have the computer up and running and connected to the phoneline and the computer would "answer" the line when it rang. If you just dialed that number with a regular telephone it would be like calling a FAX machine, all you'd get was the squawking of a modem trying to "talk" to another modem. If there was no modem to talk back, then no connection was made. If you used another modem equipped computer to dial this number using the corresponding software, then a session would be set up which allowed you to access the server computer's desktop and run programs. But, that is massive graphical data to move over a 56kbps phone connection and things were painfully slow. It was NOT like sitting in front of the computer, it was barely usable. I don't believe that any hosting services have ever been created to provide what your wanting because the 56kbps connection is just too slow to deliver the desktop in a usable fashion. It's like trying to watch video over a dialup.

"I need to connect through dialup to a access particular application than can only be access through dialup". What application? What is the OS of the machine that hosts this application?
